It may be more of the same after Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie but when it's this good who cares? and DK64 was certainly a lot bigger and more in depth than all those that had come before it. |

No one would've believed this game was possible on N64 before it arrived, games in the Resident Evil series were always designed around the strengths of the PS1 and the CD format, fitting all that data into a cartridge was a real feat of programming. |

The classic PS1 series' first and only N64 iteration was an immediate classic, taking the best bits of the PS1 versions and then honed to perfection. I'd personally say it's the systems best arcade style racer. |

Easily one of the best puzzle games on the system, it's full to the brim with ideas, and has a great humour and charm permeating the whole game too. |

What F-Zero X lacks in the visual department it more than makes up for in the adrenaline fueled white knuckle speed department. The track designs are inspired and the whole thing was first class. |

What a genius concept for a puzzle game! a nuclear truck is out of control and you have to clear a path for it using an assortment of vehicles before it crashes, this game really manages to build up the tense action. |

Mario Kart has to be one of the greatest multiplayer experiences ever devised, and the N64 iteration happens to be my favourite of them all, great 4-player mode, loads of excellent courses set out to screw over your friends, timeless stuff. |

Banjo Kazooie |

Banjo Kazooie took what was laid down in Mario 64 and built on the idea, adding an interesting 2-in-1 character design that was to be later used in the Ratchet and Clank series, another thing that Rare managed to do a much better job on were the characterisations, Banjo and Kazooie were really given personalities of their own, an element that I always felt was missing from Mario 64 as in that game the story was not really much of a factor. |

Genius update of the SNES classic, plays beautifully with it's inspired bosses and level designs that never became repetitive, and it had more replayability caused by it's addictive combo based medal system than most other games out there. |

Super Smash Bros |

I'm going to say it, Smash Bros was probably the most important fighting game to appear since Street Fighter 2, it just came completely out of the blue with it's totally unique, amazingly fun and well judged battle system. This started what has to be without a doubt one of the greatest multiplayer gaming series' ever created. |

Sin and Punishment |

Great action, brilliant controls, a fantastic over the top and complicated storyline which contained some of the best set-pieces ever to grace a game and brilliant voice acting (which is all in English I might add) all add up to make Sin and Punishment easily one of the best rail shooters ever created, Treasure at their very best. |

Much darker and downbeat to it's N64 sibling, Majora's Mask managed to squeeze even more out of the 64' with it's brilliant graphics whilst still managing to throw in some new ideas. The atmosphere of this game is 2nd to none and you really feel as though you're watching the final days of peoples lives play out before the end. |

Very late in the N64's lifespan Excite Bike shot out of nowhere and managed to be an amazing game, it's just a shame so few people got to play it as most had moved on by the stage it was released. |

Golden Eye |

Everybody knows about Goldeneye, the N64's biggest killer app. This game was just so far ahead of every other console FPS out there with it's stealthy gameplay and assortment of different weapons, not to mention the massive amount of replayability it had. Just lost out to Perfect Dark by a hair's breadth though it was far from an easy decision, Goldeneye definately has the better theme of the two, and is also faster paced by no small margin. |

Rare built on Goldeneye in virtually every respect and threw in more options and extras than anyone would've imagined, not only was the whole campaign mode a little bit more consistantly brilliant but it could be played in co-op (make sure that screens split vertically unless you want a bad frame rate) and counter-op as well as a massive and fun multiplayer mission mode that was nearly another complete game of it's own, the multiplayer had masses more levels and guns, the guns were cooler and more unique, tons of included stats and loads of extra game options. phenominal. |

After Mario 64's fully realised world Ocarina managed to raise the bar even higher bringing a much more cohesive experience, The music and atmosphere were second to none setting the mood of the game perfectly, clever puzzles and a brilliant and elegant battle system control were two more elements that were too important not to mention. Conker's Bad Fur Day |

A massive enjoyable romp through pastiches of everyone's favourite movies. The storyline might not of been the most cohesive but it managed to be completely engrossing and consistantly funny. Not only did it have an excellent and unique single player, Conker had masses of excellent multiplayer modes thrown in for good measure many of which were also great fun. On a technical level Conker leaves most N64 games in the dust including voice acting with lip synching, amazing levels of textures (which was one of the 64's biggest technical limitations) and dynamic shadowing. Even now I can think of no other game like it out there. |
